School Management and Academic Curriculum Development for the Islamic International School PSM in Indonesia

The Islamic International School was set up in Magetan, East Java in 2008.

Part of the Pesantren Sabilil Muttaqin network of more than 200 schools, this new school is modelled after the Islamic school framework in Singapore.

To help the school establish a model Islamic school framework, the Madrasah Al-Irsyad Singapore provided trainers who guided the school management team in the early stages of its planning and development.

The first phase of the programme covered the capacity-building of teachers, upgrading of mainstream academic curriculum plans for subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science.

It has also helped in the strengthening of the school’s governance and management systems.

The first phase has since been completed with great success.

Temasek Foundation has continued to support the second phase of the development of the school, growing its education programme through the accreditation of the education technologies used by the school to meet international standards.

The teachers and pupils will also undergo training to raise their standards of competency in English through an international English Language accreditation programme.

In the long run, the school aims to transfer the technologies, systems and processes to other Islamic schools in Indonesia.
